6/2009 - Colorado, USA - Some friends did family pictures for us while we were back. The colorfulness of these really reminds me of what life is like here in Nepal. If you live in Colorado and need pictures done check them out: Image Factory Photography.

Dear Friends,

Wow, it's hard to believe we're already in December. Happy Holidays to everone! Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, Happy all of them!

We have been steadily pursuing the opportunities before us. We both serve the school in different ways, Alicia and Elijah both are now in school. Many challenges are being overcome. We are nearing the end of our third year here and admittedly Ryan had a season of discontentment. God answered that by showing him many things that matter, providing good counsel, and most of all chipping away further at the things that hinder him. We are stronger than ever and truly believe that season is coming to an end.

10/2009 - Chitwan, Nepal - Ryan went with a group of students to Chitwan National Forest. He loves spending time with these students.

11/2009 - Kathmandu, Nepal - Thanksgiving day with friends, one of two we were blessed to attend. We even had turkey!

Family is a tremendous part of living so far away and working in what often seem like such futile circumstances. For the single people here, the community provides them with the same as much as they are able. In the end every Christian is a missionary and most of us have times when the work seems futile. Faith must overcome that, we do what we do because Jesus told us to. We do our best, and the rest is up to Him.

Chandra still loves her job, but she hasn't been feeling well lately. She is preparing for a music program, helping with the school PTA, working with the head of the school. She's a busy lady without adding the demands of three young children. Ryan has gotten the ICT team at the school to a place where he can focus on developing things from home which helps him to pitch in around the house. The house still falls apart quickly, and he has to put on his Mr. Fix-it hat, but it adds to the excitement. Life here is half routine and half adaptation. The power continues to go out more and more and we adjust accordingly.

10/2009 - Pokhara, Nepal - Chandra and the kids exploring a bit and having some fun for a weekend.
Ryan mentioned the other day that something about the worship time at our Nepali church brings him a joy like he has never experienced before. A nearly tuned guitar, a young guy on an old drum set keeping a different time every 30 seconds or so, and the pastor encouraging them to keep going and yet still a beautiful sound of Nepali believers filled with the Holy Spirit. It is truly profound, and like a spiritual buffet. He is really enjoying his work at the church. He's teaching English classes now, and last week shared in the youth service. He held up a candy cane we got from the states, the only one that made it here in one piece. He explained that it was very valuable because it was the only one, he read from Acts, about it being more blessed to give than to receive, and then he passed it to a young man who proceeded to pass it to another. It went all around the room, and came back again. Finally, it did break, right at the end, when several of the very youngest in the group were fighting over it. The example was completed. The kids laughed the whole time, what a privilege.

9/2009 - Village just outside Kathmandu, Nepal - Ryan and some friends enjoy getting out of the city. The motorcycle was a gracious loan and breathing fresh air, seeing the Himals and spending some time with locals is a blessing.
God continues to take care of us, even when we don't see how. The financial crisis has taken a big toll on our donor income but the Holy Spirit reminds our friends of us when we are struggling. We are so thankful that the vine of Christ is big and wide, much more than our minds often fathom. These days our income averages about $300 below our expenses per month. Praise God, our gas bottles keep going and discounts and other blessings come our way, and we keep going.

9/2009 - Ghorka, Nepal - If you follow our Facebook Group you know about Ryan's trip to Gorkha. He and his pastor went to try to help some friends.
There is so much need. Even our Pastor is struggling, it's a long story that began with a well meaning but uncommited short term missionary and has come to the point that our Pastor and his wife are taking care of six more children on top of the two they already have. We are very proud of this little church and look up to this hard working family. We and another family are trying to help as well.

10/2009 - Chitwan, Nepal - More from Ryan's week trip to Chitwan with these neat TCKs.
Even our Christian school that exists to provide Christ-centered education to missionary children and the community, needs help, especially a primary grades 5-6 teacher. Even if just for a short term of 6 months. If you know anyone qualified please let us know.

There is much more to say, however, as usual, this has gotten long. Please pray for us, the cold of winter, the health of our family, the work of our hands. May God be praised.

We thank God for you!

8/2006 - Colorado Springs
God is willing, and in the spring of 2007, our family relocated indefinitely to Kathmandu, Nepal. There we serve at a school and have begun to learn the language and culture of a country in transition.

Nepal's transition is not just political, it is spiritual as well. The vast majority of the country, 95%+ depending on who you ask, is a combination of Hindu and Buddhist. The last 50 years have seen tremendous progress in this Country and we want to continue that work.

The school we spoke of earlier needs our help. Ryan serves teaching IT. Chandra is helping as the primary secretary, but with the kids so young it will not be full time for her.

So here is where you come in. The spiritual climate in the whole region wears heavily on Christians here. One couple we met, whose kids graduated from the school, have been there for over 15 years. They have encountered a lot of challenges, but are still going strong. We believe with them that it takes a foundation of spiritual support to free us to succeed. It is a principle God put in place, that we are truly a body. It is our hope that every one of you will pray for us as often as possible in the years and hopefully decades to come.

Matthew 6:21 - "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

The school cannot pay us to work. Most of the students come from missionary families that survive themselves on the shoulders of their supporters. So we are asking for you to consider allocating some of your treasure to support us. We realize many of you are not in such a position, for you we ask that you pray for us as though you had given us your treasures. If you do support us financially, please pray for us like you have given all you have. Sincere spiritual support is the key to long term missionaries and their success. It is only in believing the Matthew 6:21 (above) and 1 Corinthians 12:12 (the body of Christ) principles that I can rebuke my own pride and ask you to be our partners. Please allow us to climb on your shoulders and go to Nepal to contribute our talents to the move of God there.

The students are nearly all children of nearby ministers involved in medicine, church planting, education, and more. We consider it an honor to help empower these families to stay longer and do more. It will take us years to learn the culture well enough to even begin to communicate well with the locals. So we consider it a double blessing to be in a position to be fruitful as soon as our feet hit the ground. We love the people of Nepal, and we have every intention of being part of local ministry to nationals. It's just great that we can step into this support role immediately. Praise the Lord.

Psalm 50:10 - "...for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills."

We believe the principle of Psalm 50:10. God owns everything. He can and will provide for us. We just hope to some degree that you, our brothers and sisters, will be the vessels He uses. In that way we will be part of the vine, exactly where God wants us. Leaning on God and you to achieve things we could never do alone.
